The 9Payment Service Bank set up a Financial Literacy club in three schools in three states of the federation on Thursday.

The club was launched as part of activities to mark the 2023 Global Money Week with the theme, ‘Plan your money, plant your future’.

Speaking at the Lagos event which held at Ajao Estate Senior Grammar School, Isolo, the Managing Director of 9PSB, Branka Mracajac, said that organisations all over the globe had been able to reach 153 million young people in 176 countries with the message of financial literacy.

She told the students that, “Financial literacy helps you to acquire knowledge on how money works in the world. There’s a cycle, you need to know; how you make money, how you manage your money, how you invest money, which means how you turn it into more money and then how you use your money to help others.”

Mracajac also advised the students on betting which was raised by one of them.

“Betting is never an investment and I hope when you get older, you will be smart with your money and won’t bet,” she said.

On the launch of the club, the Head, Marketing Communications and Customer Experience, 9PSB, Mr Shola Ogunyemi, said that the club would not only support the students learning but also broaden their worldview on money.

He said, “The Financial Literacy club will reinforce learning and will take place in the classroom. This club is to support the efforts of your teachers to ensure you get a world view of what financial literacy and money management are. It also drives financial inclusion and access for the benefit of other Nigerians like you.”

Ogunyemi added that the club was being declared open at other schools in Abuja and Kano State.

The school principal, Mrs Adebisi Olabiran, also described the club as a welcome development.

She said, “This idea will enable students to know they need to save and need not engage in wasteful spending. It will help the students to go back home to tell their parents that 9Mobile was in their school to tell them about how to save their money.”
