The Chief Digital Officer, Wema Bank Plc, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, has said that it is important to establish a roadmap that will help to draw more women into the tech sector.

A statement said he spoke on the topic ‘She can do more in technology’ at the 2022 edition of SheCan Conference in Lagos.

According to him, more women participation would address the imbalance and gender diversity in the digital space and create greater prosperity in the world.

Adeniyi identified various areas where women could take part in the growing digital economy to stem the current female underrepresentation in the sector.

“Opportunities for women in the digital sector include cloud computing, green economy, sales, product development, content production and writing,” he said.

Other opportunities, according to him, were marketing, e-commerce, product development, and digital healthcare services, among others.

Quoting the World Economic Forum’s 2018 report on the ‘Future of jobs’, he said globally, about 150 million new technological jobs could be created in the next five years, but women were grossly underrepresented in the digital sector in developing countries.

“The International Telecommunications Union ‘Digital Gender Divide survey’ reports that women using the Internet are 12 per cent fewer than men and are four times less likely to use digital technology,” he said.
